Back with the Five Things format for today! Now if you’ll excuse me for a moment I’ll just…pop on over to W3Schools and do another React module before I…okay, okay fine. I’ll resist temptation and pop off my five things for the day instead.
- What I mean to say is: I’ve spent the majority of today working on “
brushing up on my React knowledge” cramming for my interview with the Cleveland Clinic hiring manager tomorrow morning. Urp. I’ve been studying a lot of C# and React lately and it’s making me realize how cool these languages are. (I KNOW, React is a framework and not a language. Put your pen away.) I really want to build something from the ground up for fun, but what to do? I have the same problem when I think about writing a book. It’s a big, nebulous Idea and I need to make some decisions of which path to actually take. Tough for me. - I got a cut of pork sirloin roast in my Fresh Fork Market box this past Saturday and wanted to make it to go with baked beans I was making out of the turkey craw beans I poached from my dad’s garden, but couldn’t figure out what I wanted to do with it, exactly. So I caved and asked ChatGPT, and it actually came up with a pretty good suggestion of a spice rub to compliment the beans + how long to do it in the Instant Pot. I ended up having to put it in a bit longer because the center wasn’t quite cooked through, but overall, a good recipe. Still — ChatGPT, you are not “emotionally invested” in how this turns out, don’t even pretend you are. (It LITERALLY said “I’m now emotionally invested in this pork. 😂”)
- We went to the Michiana Mennonite Relief Sale this weekend! It was a whirlwind tour — we got in at around 10:30 on Thursday night and left right after eating pancakes at around 8am Saturday morning — but it was lovely to go back for the first time in ages. We got to catch up with a friend from high school, eat delicious food, see gorgeous quilts. The kids whined the entire darn time, and next year I’ll remember to bring cash, woof. But overall, 10/10. We also got to ride bikes on the Pumpkinvine Nature Trail that has a hop-on point about a mile from my parents’ house. Next year I hope we can get ourselves all the way to my parents’ favorite ice cream shop.
- We’ve had a couple home alarm system false alarms recently, which has led to some SEVERE sleeping anxiety in Liesl. Which has led to some SEVERE sleep deprivation on my part. Last night she refused to go to sleep without me nearby, and kept waking up to check that I was there/come into my room to try and get me to let her sleep on the loveseat in our bedroom. I’m le tired. She’s le tired. I’m praying she sleeps well tonight, because — see #1. Interview tomorrow morning.
- I need to re-up the kids’ clothing. It’s going to be expensive, because I have champagne taste. Or, according to my husband I do. I just like buying quality kids’ clothes that last multiple years and through multiple children. If that means I pay $60 for a puffer jacket, I’m willing to accept that. (My kids’ retailer of choice is Primary. I just love their stuff, and it really holds up well. And I’m about to drop a chunk of change on fall/winter clothes for these three kids.)
