With 40 books to read in 12 months, I’ll need to read an average of 3.33 books per month. Let’s bump it up to an even four, which is generally doable, and leaves the summer free for more fun side reading adventures. I’ll update this table as my reading progresses.
By the way, here’s how I choose my reading for the year:
- The most recent Printz winners and nominees
- Printz winners and nominees from a year continually going back (this year it’s 2012, next year it will be 2011)
- The most recent Newbery winners and nominees
- Newbery winners and nominees from 2003 (next year 2002…you get the idea)
- The most recent National Book Award for Young People’s Literature winners and nominees
- National Book Award for Young People’s Literature winners and nominees for 2013
- The most recent winner (only) of the National Book Award for Fiction and for Nonfiction
- The winner (only) of the National Book Award for Fiction and for Nonfiction from 2013
- 2x re-reads
- 2x Of-the-Moment (ex. Yesteryear — a book everyone’s reading and talking about)
- 6x ClassicQuest reads (literary classics I feel like I “should” read or “have always wanted to” read)
I know someday I’m going to have to speed up some of these categories (mostly the Newbery winners) if I want to finish them all before I die. I’m a completist, so I can’t let myself die before finishing all of the Newbery winners 😉
